How do I check VAT calculations and set a realistic hourly rate?
Choose net or gross VAT, understand billable time and avoid treating estimates as tax advice.
Am I adding or removing VAT?
In the VAT calculator, choose Add VATwhen starting with a net price, or Remove VAT when the price already includes it. Select the applicable rate or use Other rate. Removing VAT from a gross price is not the same as subtracting that percentage of the gross total.
Check the separate net, VAT and total results before copying them. The calculator does not determine whether you should register for VAT or which rate applies to a supply. Check current official guidance or ask your accountant if unsure.
Why is my suggested rate higher than expected?
In the hourly rate calculator, choose a starting business type, then replace the example income, working time and costs with your own figures. The calculation includes overheads, a safety buffer, time off and the share of working time you can actually bill. Travel, administration and quiet periods reduce paid hours.
The day rate uses your daily hours and billable-time percentage, so it need not be the hourly result multiplied by eight. These are planning estimates, not guaranteed earnings, tax calculations or market prices. Compare them with your actual costs and demand.
Will my calculator inputs be saved?
These calculators do not use the invoice and quote account history. Copy the results or keep your own notes before leaving the page. Opening them while signed in does not mean their inputs sync across devices.
